What we collect
Through the enquiry form, only what you type into it. Your name, phone number, email address, the postcode or town of the property and when you would like to start are needed before we can answer, because without them we cannot reach you or tell you whether the job is one we can take on. A budget range and a description of the project are optional, and only help us come back with something useful. If you reach us by phone or WhatsApp instead, we hold whatever you choose to tell us, in the same way and for the same reasons.
We set no cookies of our own, run no analytics and embed nothing from other companies. The company that hosts the site keeps the ordinary connection records any web host keeps, including your IP address, and may set a cookie of its own to tell real visitors from automated traffic. That rests on our legitimate interest in keeping the site available and secure. We do not use those records to identify visitors.
Why we use it, and our lawful basis
We use your details to reply to your enquiry and, if you decide to go ahead, to prepare a quotation and carry out the work. Replying rests on our legitimate interests: running a building company means answering the people who contact us, which is what you asked us to do. Quoting, and everything after it, rests on contract, being the steps you have asked for before entering into a contract and then performing it.
You will not be added to a marketing list. Your details are never sold and never passed to anyone else for marketing. Automated checks screen out spam, but no automated decision is made about you.
Who else sees it
Three suppliers handle your enquiry on its way to us, and none of them uses it for anything of their own: the company that hosts this website and runs the code behind the form, the company that delivers the resulting email, and the company that provides our own inbox. We do not pass your enquiry to anyone else. If the work goes ahead we will tell you then who else needs your details in order to do it.
Those suppliers are United States companies, so your details may be handled outside the United Kingdom. Where that happens we rely on the transfer safeguards that UK data protection law requires, and you can ask us for a copy of them.
How long we keep it
Enquiries that do not become jobs: twelve months. If the work goes ahead, your details become part of the job record, which we keep for as long as tax, insurance and building-warranty obligations require.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of what we hold, ask us to correct or delete it, ask us to restrict how it is used, or ask for it in a portable form where that applies. Use the contact details in Who is responsible. We will reply within one month, and will say so if a complicated request needs longer.
You can also object to our use of your details. Because answering enquiries rests on our legitimate interests, you have the right to object to it at any time, and we will stop unless we have compelling grounds not to.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
